Favorite Scapes: Round 1
This week I want to highlight a couple of my favorite images. No real rhyme or reason but I started with the idea to feature dramatic photos. Well I think only a couple of these are really "dramatic", the rest are really just images I like; so I will call this post Favorite Scapes and this is Round 1.
Taken near Athens, Ohio on a stormy spring morning I was out for an early drive, when the rain stopped and this lovely double rainbow appeared over a picturesque field. Even after the rainbow was gone I still stayed a while a long the roadside and admired the pretty countryside.
The image of the Vista House at Crown Point was taken at the Columbia Gorge from the Portland Women's Forum day use site at sunrise on a very windy and cold day. I love the blues of the mountains and the water and the subtle pinks beginning to brighten the scene.
This photo was taken at Big Lake near the summit of the Cascade Mountains. There were a lot of local fires that changed the atmosphere enough for the sun to paint the world in a new color, although I may have helped bring out the vibrance ;-)
Peaceful twilight. A lighthouse on the hill overlooks the harbor and the ocean in Cresent City, California. I remember taking this photo early on in my photography career and I was unhappy with it. A few years later after I learned how to use editing programs. Now I like and appreciate it as an image.
I love this photograph of a plant high along the continental divide. The composition and the way the light plays off the leaves that really shows the texture are two key elements that make it a favorite. I wish I knew what it was.
While on a trip back to the west coast from Michigan we stopped at many of the Great Lakes and this image of Lake Superior was taken later in the day. This is how I remember it looking with a deep blue sky and welcoming pier, of course it wasn't quite this bold when I took the shot.
North Dakota Sunset. Taken from a hill above our hotel room I never would have guessed this was the scene we would encounter and I am glad I had my camera with me. Multiple small ant hills rise up across the landscape as the sun set behind an array of whispy clouds. Where is the giraffe?
One of my favorites (I know I have many). Wind turbines in the Columbia Gorge on the Washington side just outside of Biggs, Oregon. It had been a stormy drive and after stopping for gas the sun came out and created this vibrant golden field against the dark, thick clouds I couldn't get into my car fast enough to get across the bridge... luckily I made it fast enough to capture this image. The windmills are often a favorite subject of my lens.
